“RE-EMERGENCE”

Intro to design studio II, Fall 2023
Academic Project
Project Type: Community-centric Design
Location: 233 West Park St, Providence, RI
Programs: AutoCAD, Rhino, Enscape, Adobe Illustrator

Guided by Carl Elefante’s insight “The greenest building is the one that already exists” this project leverages technology and adaptive reuse to integrate sustainable solutions within the existing built environment. The design not only optimizes space efficiency but also addresses the pressing issue of food parity in Providence, ensuring equitable access to fresh, locally grown food.

Objective: This project envisions a self-sustaining building that incorporates renewable energy systems to minimize energy consumption while generating sufficient power for its internal programs. A strong emphasis is placed on food security, fostering a closed-loop system that integrates urban farming, community engagement, and responsible resource management. Natural light penetration is carefully optimized to enhance user well-being, and a seamless integration of indoor and outdoor spaces reinforces a holistic, health-focused design approach.
